On August 5, 1997 , officers were sent to a field just north of the North Branch YMCA just after 1 p.m. in reference to a body. Upon arrival, officers found the murdered body of Gloria Covington. Covington had been partially disrobed, and had been stabbed to death. Covington was a known prostitute, and was last seen in the area of the motels in the 600 block of West Amarillo Boulevard. The suspect in this case is still at large.
