2 arrested in connection with Palo Duro High student being hit by stray bullet

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo police have identified and arrested two men accused of firing guns on March 6, during which a Palo Duro High School student was hit by a stray bullet.
The suspects were identified as Elijah Aguilar, 18, and Lareque Carter, 18, and both were arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
Amarillo police responded to the area of NE 24th Ave and N. Arthur Street around 2 p.m. after getting several 911 calls.
"We received several calls from different callers, all stating there were numerous shots fired," said police.
Police were also told a student on the tennis courts at Palo Duro High School had been shot in the hand. He was treated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.
Both PDHS and Hamlet Elementary School went into lockdown.
The Amarillo Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is still investigating.
