Amarillo police arrested a wanted fugitive after an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex on Friday afternoon. The Police Department said that at about 12 p. m. it was given a tip that a wanted fugitive might be hiding in an apartment in the 4100 block of SW 45th, in the Eddison Apartments. Officers contacted the resident of the apartment and confirmed that the wanted person, 30-year-old Manuel Escoto, was hiding inside.

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo police arrested a wanted fugitive after an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex on Friday afternoon.

The Police Department said that at about 12 p.m. it was given a tip that a wanted fugitive might be hiding in an apartment in the 4100 block of SW 45th, in the Eddison Apartments.

Officers contacted the resident of the apartment and confirmed that the wanted person, 30-year-old Manuel Escoto, was hiding inside.

Information was obtained that the fugitive was armed and the Critical Incident Response Team was called to the scene.

The area was secured by SWAT, PACE and patrol units.

SWAT officers and negotiators spent hours trying to get the suspect to come outside utilizing multiple tactics, including voice and phone and PA.

A chemical agent was then deployed and the suspect surrendered himself without further incident.

Escoto was arrested for his warrant for violating a protective order and he was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and evading arrest or detention.

He was booked into the Randall County Detention Center without incident.

The incident remains under the investigation of the Violent Crimes Squad.
