Amarillo man pleads guilty to marijuana possession charge
AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – An Amarillo man pleaded guilty to one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana” in Amarillo Federal Court on Tuesday after being indicted in December 2023 on charges related to allegedly trafficking marijuana and tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC.
According to court documents, Josaya Jude Nevarez pleaded guilty to one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana” after a November 2022 incident in which police officers allegedly found 62 packages of THC edibles in Nevarez’s bedroom closet and at least 425.48 grams of marijuana. Police said that the alleged amounts were consistent with distribution. Police also reported finding a .38 revolver in Nevarez’s home, which court documents noted could be forfeited as a result of the guilty plea.
Court documents further detailed that if convicted, Nevarez could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, alongside at least two years of supervised release.
