DA seeking death penalty against man accused of killing pregnant woman in I-40 hotel room

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The district attorney will seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing a pregnant woman in a hotel room on I-40.

Trey Greenleaf is charged with the murder of Kendra Jo Vela.

Vela was found shot to death Feb. 5 at WoodSpring Suites.

She was pregnant when Amarillo police said Greenleaf shot her in the head.

On March 9, Greenleaf was indicted for capital murder of multiple persons.

According to a pre-trial motion filed last week, 47th District Attorney Randall Sims is "seeking the death penalty in this case."
