Man arrested for drunk driving in fatal crash on Soncy
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A man was arrested for intoxicated manslaughter in a crash on Soncy and Legend that left one person dead and two others critically injured.
According to Amarillo Police Department, the crash happened on Jan. 3rd around 9:40 p.m. when "officers were called to Soncy Rd and Legend Ave on a major traffic crash."
When officers arrived, they learned one person had been killed and two others had been taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Officers determined a 2022 Ram 2500 driven by 29-year-old Carlos Coronado had been southbound on Soncy Road in the inside lane for southbound traffic.
Coronado swerved into northbound traffic to avoid rearending another vehicle and struck a 2019 Ford Escape driven by Clebson Roberto Hillario Da Silva, male, age 35.
Da Silva died on scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
A female, age 34, and a 2-year-old child, both passengers in the Escape, were transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Coronado was arrested and booked into the Randall County jail for Intoxication Manslaughter and 2 counts of Intoxication Assault.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
