Update: 1 arrested after shooting in Avondale area Saturday
The Amarillo Police Department arrested one person in connection to the weekend's deadly shooting incident outside a residence after obtaining a warrant for murder. Dylan Black, 22, was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
The case is still under investigation by the Amarillo Police Homicide Unit. Police again reached out to the community Tuesday for assistance with the shooting investigation. Anyone with security cameras outside — or even inside — that might have captured anything between 2:30 and 4 a.m. on Aug. 31 is urged to review the footage and contact the APD's Homicide Unit directly if anything is found.
APD said officers were sent to the 1300 block of South Avondale at about 3:19 a.m. Saturday on a reported shooting, after multiple callers reported shots fired in the area. Officers learned there had been an afterparty after the bars had closed, and most of the people had left by the time officers arrived.
APD said the crowd at the party grew: "When the residents and friends tried to get the uninvited guests to leave, an altercation occurred inside the home. The fight spilled outside the home and shots were fired. A short time later, two gunshot victims arrived at an area hospital," a news release states.
Felita Bailey, 25, died at the hospital due to her injuries, according to police. A second individual had serious injuries and was being treated.
A public video portal was set up for the community to submit any video footage of the incident, taken between 2:30 and 4 a.m., online at https://amarillopdtx.evidence.com/axon/community-request/public/1300blkavondale or via a QR code on their community alert or Facebook page.
Police had blocked off the area and asked the public to find alternate routes while officers were investigating at the scene.
