Charge upgraded to Capital Murder in 2022 north Amarillo shooting
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A Potter County man’s murder charge was upgraded to capital murder last week.
Bol Marko Deng is accused of shooting three people in a home near Northwest 18th and Bonham on October 29, 2022.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the home and found two men inside the home and a woman in the backyard, all had been shot.
First responders transported the woman and one of the men to the hospital with serious injuries.
The second man, 19-year-old Lawrence Hart, was declared dead at the scene.
Police arrested Deng and booked him into Potter County Detention Center the next day.
A Potter County grand jury indicted Deng in January 2023 on two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a charge of murder.
Two additional charges for unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon have been filed against Deng in that time.
Last month, nearly three years after Hart’s murder, the 47th District Attorney upgraded the charge to capital murder.
Court documents dated August 22 claim that Deng intentionally caused the death of Lawrence Hart by shooting him while trying to rob him.
Deng’s last court hearing was for a requested bond reduction in July, which was denied.
No further court dates have been set.
If convicted, Deng will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
