AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Charges were re-filed Wednesday against a man accused of being high on meth when he ran a red light, killing a mother of six.

Patrick Wayne Nuner, 50, is charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and manslaughter in the death of Laura Sanders.

Last week, his attorney filed a motion to dismiss because Nuner had been in jail for "more than 180 days without an indictment."

The judge granted the motion.

"My sister didn’t deserve what this man did to her or our family," said Christine Meyer. "We deserve justice. SHE deserves justice. He shouldn’t be able to walk free while we have to visit her grave."

"Laura was our daughter and did nothing wrong," said Tommy Kerbo. "(She) just had supper with her husband and (was) driving home to her children. Where is the justice for her?"

Amarillo police told ABC 7 News that Nuner hadn’t been indicted because they were waiting on the toxicology report from the lab.

APD got the lab results on Monday.

According to court records, the case was re-filed Wednesday and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

A DPS lab report shows Nuner's "blood contained methamphetamine," according to the new criminal complaint.

The lab results back up what Nuner told police. He had had been "smoking meth and ingesting prescription medication in excess of the prescription."

The crash happened March 18, 2023 at the intersection of SE 3rd Avenue and Buchanan Street.

The new criminal complaint also said Nuner was driving 71 mph when he t-boned Sanders' car, which is "more than twice the legal speed limit."

Nuner went past the police station and ran "several red lights" before the crash.
