AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Amarillo woman accused of killing her two-month-old daughter was indicted for murder.

Police were called to Ashley Kay Harper's home on Feb. 21 for a baby not breathing.

Eva Salene Diaz was dead when they arrived.

Harper, 19, was initially charged with injury to a child.

Charges were upgraded to murder on Feb. 28.

According to the criminal complaint, Harper hit Diaz in the head with her hand.

Harper confessed to the murder during questioning.

Last month, Harper's attorney filed a motion asking a judge to appoint someone to determine whether she is competent to stand trial.
