Two-alarm fire completely destroys large warehouse in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A large warehouse was destroyed in a two-alarm fire early Sunday morning.

The Amarillo Fire Department (AFD) responded to a large structure fire at 111 South Tyler Street at about 3:42 a.m.

Crews arrived to find a vacant warehouse fully engulfed in flames. Due to the extent of the fire, defensive tactics were immediately initiated.

Firefighters used aerial master streams and ground lines to contain the fire, working for several hours to bring it under control. Salvage and overhaul operations were conducted after extinguishment.

No injuries were reported. The warehouse, previously marked unsafe for occupancy, was completely destroyed.

Estimated property loss is $20,000, with no reported content loss.

The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. The building was known to be frequented by transients, and authorities are investigating possible causes, including human involvement.

The fire remains under investigation.

AFD reminds residents to report any suspicious activity around vacant buildings and to follow fire safety precautions, particularly in cold weather.
