Summary

Members of the Amarillo Police Department Special Operations Unit - Task Force Office were conducting surveillance at the address of 316 S. Georgia in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas, for Gaede. Gaede was the suspect in an incident that occurred on June 23, 2024, where a female was assaulted, and Gaede fired a weapon at witnesses who were trying to protect the female. TFO's learned that Gaede was wanted for a Burglary charge out of Randall County and was the suspect in the above-mentioned incident under APD 23-510350.

A subject approached the residence at 316 S. Georgia while surveillance was being conducted, and believed the subject knocking on the door was Gaede. As the subject was walking away, TFO's attempted to detain the subject, later identified as Gaede, and he would not comply with commands. The subject fled on foot, and TFO's gave chase. Gaede ran into the backyard of 314 S. Georgia, turned towards officers and displayed a firearm. TFO discharged his firearm and struck Gaede.

Officers provided medical care at the scene and an ambulance was called. Gaede was transported to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.
