AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A murder suspect told his girlfriend in a phone call from jail that he should have gotten rid of the body, according to court documents.
Phou Poo Phiouphanh, 47, is accused of killed Isaac Shay Morris, 39, on Aug. 19.
Morris' body was found in the middle of the street on NE 9th Ave.
He had blunt force injuries to his head.
Amarillo police said "video from the slots at 815 Columbine" shows Phiouphanh having an argument with Morris at 3:34 a.m.
They were arguing next to a black Honda Accord registered to Phiouphanh's mom.
At 3:42 a.m. Morris walks off down NE 9th Street.
Phiouphanh then put "an object" down the front of his pants and drove off.
His car was seen again six minutes later with damage to the back window and rear driver's side window.
Phiouphanh told police the damage occurred when he dropped off his girlfriend at her father's house in the 5600 block of NE 9th.
But she denied witnessing an altercation.
Police said they found a blood stain on Phiouphanh's shorts and inside the Honda Accord.
According to court documents, Phiouphanh called his girlfriend from the Potter County Jail.
He asked her if police had found "the metal he put in the barrel at his mom's house."
He also talked about hitting Morris with "the metal" and that he should have gotten rid of the body.
Phiouphanh's niece also told police that he asked her on Sept. 1 to turn the surveillance cameras off at his mom's house because he needed to get something out of the barrel.
He's being held on $300,000 bond.
