- Synopsis: at 7:03 a.m., APD responded to a home near Northwest 14th and Bonham for a disturbance after an open 911 call. The suspect had already left and no crime was reported at that time. At 7:36 a.m., PCSO deputies responded to a business near U.S. 335 and North Western Street for an attempted robbery. They learned that a suspect forced his way into an occupied building. The victim fought back and injured the suspect. The suspect, identified as Dustin Johnson, left and parked a short distance away. A second individual came and met with Johnson, who then went back to the building and shot two people. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene. A brief pursuit involving DPS, PCSO and Johnson was initiated but he was able to evade. At about 8:15 a.m., Johnson returned to the NW 14th Avenue residence, drove a truck into the home, and then began firing into the house. APD arrived on the scene and saw Johnson outside the residence wearing body armor and armed with a rifle. Officers gave verbal commands to drop the rifle, but the Johnson began firing shots. Officers returned fire, killing him. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene and five additional people were transported to local hospitals with injuries. A second victim, Danny Shead, died on March 26 from injuries sustained in the incident.
