AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A woman and her 6-year-old boy were killed in a high speed crash in Amarillo.

Police said the 19-year-old driver who hit them was going at least 100-plus miles per hour.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. at Amarillo Blvd. West and Florida Street.

Amarillo police told ABC 7 News that an 19-year-old black male in a Chevy Camaro was headed east on Amarillo Blvd.

The woman was headed northbound on Florida.

She stopped at the stop sign and then attempted to cross the boulevard.

Seeing the Camaro traveling at a high rate of speed, the woman started to back up.

Police said the driver of the Camaro swerved right and hit the driver side of the victims' Honda Accord.

The woman and her son were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The driver will be charged with two counts of manslaughter.

That stretch of Amarillo Blvd. is expected to be closed until around 1 a.m.
