Wilson sentenced to 42 years in prison
From the 47th District Attorney's Office:
On July 19, 2017, several people had gathered at a house on Tyler Street near Amarillo Blvd to hang out and play video games. This casual social gathering turned chaotic when gunshots rang out. Brandon Washington was shot as he tried to run away from the scene.
He was hit in the hip and the chest, and managed to run two streets away before collapsing. He was located by EMS at the corner of Polk and Amarillo Blvd. Brandon was taken to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries and passed away shortly after arriving.
Witnesses reported that the shooter was Matthew Wilson, who had never even met the victim before this night. They also reported that the shooting was unprovoked, which was born out by the defendant shooting at the victim as he attempted to flee.
The case was tried to a jury in the 251st District Court the week of February 5th, 2024. The jury convicted Mr. Wilson of murder, and the defendant elected for the Judge to assess punishment. After a punishment hearing, Judge Ana Estevez sentenced the defendant to 42 years in prison for the murder of Brandon Washington.
While we realize that nothing can bring back a loved one or make up for this loss, the 47th District Attorney’s Office is proud to seek justice for Brandon Washington and thanks the jury and the Court for their verdicts.
