Amarillo man accused of killing 4-year-old boy
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — An Amarillo man is accused of killing a 4-year-old boy.
Brady Dillon Michael Burkett, 29, was arrested in New York on a warrant out of Randall County, according to the Randall County Sheriff's Office.
He's charged with murder in the death of Wesson Grist.
Burkett was booked into the Randall County Jail on Thursday.
Grist died on August 6, 2022.
According to the indictment, filed June 12, 2024, Burkett "compressed" Grist's body, causing his death.
It does not detail how the sheriff's office believes Burkett did that.
But the sheriff's office told ABC 7 News that "Burkett was a person of interest throughout the investigation."
His bond was set at $750,000.
The murder charge is enhanced because Burkett pleaded guilty in 2019 to six counts of arson.
Our sister station in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, WJAC, reported Burkett told police he set trailer homes on fire because he was frustrated about not having a job, started drinking a lot of alcohol and was fighting with his girlfriend.
Police said Burkett told them setting the fires was how he channeled his anger.
