Amarillo man out on murder bond charged with two new felonies

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A man out on bond for a murder charge is now charged with two new felonies.

Lamar Tirson, 20, is one of two males accused in the shooting death of 17-year-old Juan Angel Simental, Jr in March 2023.

On that date, Amarillo police went to a call for a shooting on Nueces Street. When they got there, they found Simental with life-threatening injuries; the teen was shot during a robbery.

Police arrested Tirson and a 14-year-old juvenile on charges of aggravated robbery.

Tirson was taken to Potter County Detention Center. The juvenile was taken to Youth Center of the High Plains.

When Simental later died from his injuries, both males were charged with murder.

Four months after his arrest, Tirson posted a $250,000 bond. A trial date was set for Feb. 2026.

Court documents show that two new charges against Tirson were filed last week following a Nov. 1 incident.

He was arrested and booked into Potter County jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.

His bond was set at $500,000 on each charge. Judge Steven Denny revoked Tirson’s bond on the murder charge until he can appear before him in a hearing.
