AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A former star wrestler and coach at Tascosa High School was indicted by a federal grand jury.

Nicholas (Nick) Herrmann was indicted Wednesday on one count of enticement of a minor and booked into the Randall County Jail.

He made his initial appearance in federal court Friday morning where the judge scheduled his arraignment and detention hearing for May 21.

Federal prosecutors filed a motion asking for Herrmann to be detained until trial. At this point, he will be held without bond.

Herrmann was initially arrested by Amarillo police on Jan. 31, charged with improper relationship between an educator and student.

The alleged sexual encounters between Herrmann and the 17-year-old victim happened at the coach's home, according to Amarillo police.

APD told ABC 7 News in January that a school resource office was told about the allegations on Jan. 29.

According to AISD, Herrmann was "quickly removed from campus and (Hermann) resigned."

After investigating, the SRO contacted APD's Special Victims Unit which handles child sex crimes.

Herrmann was released Feb. 1 on a $100,000 bond.

Last year, Herrmann was named the 5A Boys Assistant Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Wrestling Coaches Association.

He was a four-time state champion wrestler at Tascosa from 2009-2012.

Herrmann qualified for three straight NCAA Championships at the University of Virginia.
