Update: APD identifies shooting victim, suspect arrested in Childress on murder warrant

The Amarillo Police Department (APD) released more details about Wednesday's fatal shooting in Amarillo and announced an arrest was made in connection to the incident in Childress Thursday morning.

APD said officers from were sent to the 2200 block of SW 7th at about 4:37 p.m. Wednesday in response to reports of a shooting. Officers at the scene found that Anthony Dewayne Dunn, 40, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, according to police, and the APD Homicide Unit began an investigation. Through their efforts, a suspect was identified, leading to the a murder warrant being issued for Keon Trashone Mathis, 25.

Mathis was arrested during a traffic stop in Childress in the early morning hours Thursday by the Childress Police Department, and he was booked into the Childress County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
