AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a building fire at 708 South Kentucky Street early Tuesday morning.
Crews arrived at approximately 7:55 a.m. to find a single-story residential structure with smoke and visible flames through the open front door.
The occupant confirmed that no one was inside the home. Firefighters initiated a coordinated attack, extinguishing the fire and conducting primary and secondary searches.
Positive Pressure Ventilation was used to clear smoke from the structure after the fire was brought under control.
Crews also secured utilities and checked for fire extension into the attic.
No injuries were reported among occupants or firefighters and the resident was outside the structure upon the fire department's arrival.
The estimated total financial loss is currently under assessment and will include both structural and content damages.
The Amarillo Fire Department's Fire Marshal’s Office has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which has been ruled accidental.
AFD urges all residents to ensure working smoke detectors are installed in their homes and to have an evacuation plan in place.
"Smoke alarms save lives and can reduce property damage by providing early warning of fire," the department said.
