Amarillo police make arrest after man found dead Saturday

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit has made an arrest after the body of a man was found Saturday morning in the area of S.W. 15th and Bowie.

John Joseph Kempf, a 23-year-old male, has been arrested and charged with murder. He has been booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

Police say officers found the body of 36-year-old Daniel Clay Beavers in his home in the early morning hours of July 19.

The Homicide Unit and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit were called to the scene to investigate.

Police say preliminary investigation suggests Beavers may have been run over by a vehicle.

An autopsy was performed on July 21 in Lubbock. Police say the report indicates Beavers died from blunt force trauma to the torso.

The Homicide Unit is actively pursuing leads.
