Man charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault after deadly wreck at 45th and Soncy

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Police Department says 19-year-old Dawson Pemberton is now facing charges after a fatal crash on June 7.

According to a press release, Traffic Investigation Detectives were able to obtain three warrants for Pemberton. The charges are two counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The charges come after a crash on 45th and Soncy that left two men dead and one injured.

Police say a passenger in the Cadillac, identified as 20-year-old Aaron Cervantez of Dimmitt, was ejected from the car.

He died at the scene.

Police also say the driver of the Cadillac, identified as 18-year-old Edwin Macias, died at the scene from injuries received in the crash.

Another passenger in the Cadillac, an 18-year-old from Dimmitt, Alexander Rivera was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Nine total cars were damaged in this crash.

Officers arrested Pemberton and he was booked into the Randall County Jail.

The case is still under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Unit.

Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to include a current photo of the suspect. Amarillo police initially reported Pemberton’s age as 23. As of June 12, police have confirmed his age to be 19.
