AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo police fished a stolen SUV out of a lake Friday morning.

The SUV was stolen around 6:15 a.m. from an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Dale Street.

The person who called 911 said they saw the suspect drive the vehicle across the street and into Martin Road Lake.

The suspect then left the scene.

ABC 7 Amarillo talked to the woman who owns the SUV. She is a mother of five who is currently going through a divorce.

Savannah Ruiz said the suspect hot wired her SUV. She then chased after him with a baseball bat.

A tow truck was called to the scene to help pull the SUV out of the frigid water.
