AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — An Amarillo man was indicted for child sex crimes discovered during a murder investigation.
Leontre Hayes, 21, was indicted by a Potter County Grand Jury on five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
According to the criminal complaint obtained by ABC 7 News,, Hayes sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl before killing her.
In 2022, police responded to Hayes' mobile home where they found the body of a 13-year-old girl.
Editor's Note: Because the murder victim is also the victim of a sex crime, ABC 7 News has chosen not to name her.
According to the criminal complaint in the sexual assault case, police said Hayes admitted to shooting the victim and having a "sexual relationship" with her.
The alleged sexual assaults happened from June-September 2021.
Hayes gave police consent to search his cell phone where they found videos of the sexual assaults.
The suspect's DNA was also recovered from the victim's body during the autopsy, indicating September 2021 was not the last incident.
