Inmate accused of killing his cellmate at Clements Unit in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — An inmate was murdered at the Clements Unit in Amarillo.

Around at 6:15 p.m. Monday, a staff member discovered an inmate had been physically assaulted in his cell.

"Life-saving measures were initiated," said the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

But the inmate did not survive.

The victim’s cellmate is believed to have killed him.

TDCJ's Office of Inspector General is investigating.

The names of the suspect and victim have not been released.
