As we reported in 2022, on Sept. 14, at around 11:30 p.m., officers were called to a shooting at an apartment complex near north Grand Street and Mesa Verde Dr.

When they arrived, 17-year-old Adam Jeremiah Maes was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Maes was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

After an investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Ke’zabian and Javonne.

They were booked into Potter County Detention Center on Sept. 20, 2022.

A 14-year-old girl was also taken into custody and transported to Youth Center of the High Plains.

Initial information suggested that the victim was the intended target of a robbery.

The investigation led homicide detectives to identify and arrest another person for the murder of Maes.

Keshawn Latrell Horn, 27, was booked into Potter County Detention Center on October 4, 2022 on a charge of murder.

Horn, 27, is charged with the murder of Adam Jeremiah Maes, 17, in 2022.

A trial date was set for Sept. 15, 2025--the three year anniversary of Maes’ death.

On Sept. 11, the two men appeared before Judge Steven Denny of 320th District Court to plead guilty.

Both received a sentence of 40-years in prison.

Five victim impact statements were made after the sentencing.

The victim, Adam Maes, was an “academically driven student” at Caprock High School at the time of his death.

At this time, no trial date has been set for the Mayes’ co-defendant, Keshawn Horn.

No further information for the 14-year-old female will be made available due to her age.
