AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A teenager was arrested for shooting a dog and trespassing early Sunday morning, Amarillo police said.
The incident occurred at about 12:25 a.m. in the 9000 block of Heritage Hills Parkway.
Police were called to the area for a dog that had been shot.
Callers said they saw two people flee the scene before police arrived.
Randall County Sheriff's Deputies and the Texas Department of Public Safety also responded to assist with the search.
An 18-year-old male was detained between Lexford Drive and Heritage Hills.
A second suspect, 17-year-old RMoney Kyanvean Cashun Thomas went into a home on Lexford without permission.
Thomas left the home once police were called but was found hiding between two houses on the same block.
A firearm was not initially found on either suspect but was later located on the ground between two houses in the area.
Police traced the firearm back to Thomas.
Thomas was charged with discharging a firearm in a municipality, cruelty to non-livestock animals, criminal trespass of a habitation, evading arrest and unlawful carrying of a weapon. He was booked into the Randall County Jail.
The 18-year-old was released at the scene.
