AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Lightning is suspected of causing an early morning apartment fire.

Around 5:45 a.m., the Amarillo Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex at 2550 Farmers Ave.

The department received reports of flames shooting through the roof, so it sounded a second alarm.

The first units on scene saw fire coming from the eaves of one of the units. Firefighters forced their way inside. It turned out to be vacant.

The adjoining units were also evacuated.

The fire was contained to the attic. It was brought under control within five minutes.

The Fire Marshal‘s Office believes the fire was caused by lightning.
