Amarillo Police Department investigating overnight shooting leaving 1 dead, 1 injured
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating an overnight shooting that left one dead and one critically injured.
Officials say on Wednesday, Jan. 24 around 11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a call around the 800 block of North Highland on a shooting incident.
According to APD, 23-year-old man Everardo ‘Evean’ Guadalupe Leal was found with a gunshot wound. Officials immediately began lifesaving measures.
Amarillo Medical Services declared Leal dead on scene.
Officials say a short time later, officers were dispatched to a second shooting around the 800 block of North Apache.
According to APD, a second man was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to a local hospital where he is listed as critical, but stable by hospital personnel.
APD says both shootings and victims are related and it is believed that this incident was sparked by an altercation that happened on Wednesday, Jan. 24 around 10 p.m., at the Grand Street Walmart.
The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating this case.
