DONLEY COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — A Childress man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for an April murder in Memphis.

The 100th Judicial District Attorney announced Henry Lee Garrett, 74, was sentenced for murder, a first-degree felony.

Garrett was arrested on Apr. 30 by the Texas Rangers for an incident that happened the day before.

“The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has a great working relationship with both the Texas Rangers and the 100th DA’s Office,” said Hall County Sheriff Tom Heck. “I think it really shows in this case where we went from offense and investigation to a prison sentence in less than three months.”

“We are very pleased with how this case turned out,” said 100th Judicial District Attorney Luke Inman. “We worked closely with the victim’s family, and with the top-notch work from the Sheriff’s Office and the Ranger Gillentine, this came to a quick resolution so the family won’t be in limbo for years and can try to move on.”

Garrett was also ordered to pay $290 in court costs.
