Man convicted of punching, stabbing girlfriend, sentenced to 50 years | KVII

RANDALL COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — A man was convicted by a Randall County jury of attacking his girlfriend and stabbing her in the stomach and sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Antonio McGregor was found guilty on June 7 by a Randall County jury of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The charges stem from an incident when McGregor hit his then-girlfriend in the face and then stabbed her causing a shallow wound in her abdomen.

The victim also testified to a pattern of violence and abuse and she stayed because McGregor 'continually promised to change and had made threats to her if she left or called the police.'

The punishment range for this charge was between 25 and 99 years or life in prison because the defendant had two prior convictions.

The jury ultimately sentenced McGregor to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

"This case involves a situation we see all too often, when victims do not feel they can leave their abusers and stay in dangerous situations. In this case, the victim is finally free from her abuser, but we encourage all other victims to reach out for help when needed," Randall County District Attorney Robert Love said.
