AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — An Amarilo man is accused of threatening to have a shootout with police while holding two kids captive.

Trey Allen Widner, 36, is charged with assault family member with a previous conviction and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to police, a woman called 911 around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday and said Widner had assaulted her.

When police arrived at the home in the 1100 block of South Western Street, the victim told officers that two children were still inside and that Widner had access to firearms and had threatened to have a shootout with police.

Officers spoke to Widner who refused to come out or let the children leave.

Due to the possible danger to the children, the Amarillo Critical Incident Response Team was called to assist.

Around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, member of the SWAT team took Widner into custody.
