- Synopsis: APD and RCSO were dispatched at 5:59 a.m. to a home near 29th and South Dallas for a domestic-violence shooting. They encountered a man identified as James Pena. He was wearing body armor and armed with an AR-15-style rifle and a handgun. Pena was taken into custody without further incident. During the initial investigation, officers found three injured family members, who were transported to a local hospital for treatment. LEO learned that Pena armed himself during the night and an altercation led to gunfire inside the home. Pena exited and continued firing into the home, leaving three injured. Hearing the shots, Jiminez and Thompson ran to the house with their own weapons and fired back before suffering fatal injuries. Pena was booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of capital murder of multiple persons.
