AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The man accused of robbing an Amarillo National Bank on Thursday robbed the same location three years ago.
Phillip Dayle Goss was arrested Thursday about 15 minutes after police said he robbed the ANB at Taylor Street and SE 5th Ave.
Goss was recently released from federal prison on bank robbery charges.
According to court records, Goss robbed the same bank on February 3, 2020.
He handed the teller a note that demanded money and said not to do anything stupid.
"The teller grabbed a band of bait bills in $10 denominations" and some older money.
Goss left with $1,251 and checked into the Star Lodge Motel on Amarillo Boulevard.
A week later, Goss turned himself in.
He went APD headquarters and handed them a note which said “I’m the one that robbed the bank last week.”
Goss said the dark colored hat and coat he wore during the robbery were in the motel room.
He also had $377 in an ANB envelope when he came to the police station. Among the cash was a $10 bill that matched one of the bait bills the teller gave Goss.
Police interviewed the motel manager who confirmed Goss checked in on Feb. 3. He gave them the $100 bill and five $10 bills Goss used to rent the room.
The five $10 bills were bait bills from the bank.
Goss pleaded guilty and was sentenced in December 2020 to three-and-a-half years in federal prison.
In 2013, Goss pleaded guilty to arson in Randall County and was sentenced to six years in prison.
